So after lots of school, I've decided to open up the leather shop again (or rather a glorified room hahah). I finally dusted off my sewing machine and opened up the tool kits that have been patiently awaiting my return from the books. After the cleanup, I opened the window to a new adventure called this summer until school starts again in September.
My shop wasn't in complete disarray mind-you; I've been doing SOME leatherwork for the last 4 years since I opened up my deviantart account, but haven't been updating so I'll be working on that in the next few months. I've also opened up an etsy shop that I'll be doing on the side, so please go check it out if you're interested, or send me a message on what you would like to see more of :) Link here: www.etsy.com/ca/shop/LiasLeath…

Anyway, it feels very good to be back and focusing on my leatherworks closely once again. Now to pop in my zelda tunes and get working (lalalalala...)

So, I've recently decided that it'd be better and easier for me if I were to stain my projects by hand. Rather than taking out my air compressor and my little air brushes that completely reject the leather stain I use. I tried thinning, I tried cleaning my brushes twice every time I use them, and tilting the brush upside down WHILE I was staining... but it all still came out blotchy, uneven, and I don't think my energy really helped in the project I was putting together. When I look at it now, I think of frustration, SO MUCH FRUSTRATION. Where I should be looking at my work and seeing the pride I have for it.
There are a few things about what will change though when I convert to staining by hand. My work will look older, more worn and at first I shied away from this thought. But today I saw it as being a style, a look that I believe would be good for me to adopt. This means that there will no longer be that smooth, put together look of my leatherworks- but it just takes too much to get to that point and also when it's stained like that, mistakes and blemishes are more noticeable.
